This page explains why the Beginners Sponsorship Guide app is rated 18+ on the App Store and what kind of content you will find in it.
This app is a companion for people working through the Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), and for their sponsors. It digitizes a paper workbook written by a member of A.A. to help new sponsors guide a sponsee through Step Four (“Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves”).
It is not a social network. It is not a dating app. It is not a game. It is a private journaling and worksheet tool designed to be used by adults in recovery, typically in consultation with an experienced sponsor.

Step Four of A.A. includes an inventory of past sexual conduct, from chapter five of the book Alcoholics Anonymous. This inventory asks adults to reflect honestly on past relationships, selfishness, dishonesty, and harm done to others — using prompts drawn from the Big Book, page 69.
The app itself contains no sexual depictions, no nudity, no explicit language. The user types their own private reflections. The prompts are therapeutic in nature and modeled directly on the paper workbook.
A user may type private inventory content and, optionally, share a read-only snapshot with one specific person they have linked with — their sponsor or sponsee. Users must both agree to the link by exchanging a short code in person or by phone. There is no open chat, no public feed, no messaging strangers.
We do not recommend this app for anyone under 18. The content requires adult context to be meaningful and could be upsetting or confusing otherwise. If you are a parent with a child in a younger recovery program (for example, Alateen), please look for age-appropriate resources designed for that audience.
Apple’s Screen Time parental controls can enforce the 18+ rating at the device level.
